12. Goal-Setting for Women - Caryn Walsh

Goal-Setting for Women

What we achieve in life is not about how we help other people or what we do for them.  It’s about how we achieve what we want to in our lives and how we go about doing this. And for women, our goals may be similar to those of our male counterparts, but achieving them may be different.  For example, we often have to factor child-care into the equation which may impact the time-frame in which we achieve our goals.  We may have to stretch them out a bit to accommodate all the many hats we wear and roles we perform in our lives.

For me, goals are the road map to the life I want. They have helped me accomplish things I once thought were impossible.

Catherine Pulsifer.

Research tells us a great deal about the benefits of goal-setting, including:

  • Goals give us direction
  • They provide us with clarity
  • They give us purpose
  • They are the reason we get out of bed in the morning
  • We have a sense of self-satisfaction when we achieve them

The most successful women ensure that they find a way to capture and keep track of all their big goals. Their personal goal setting is often driven by their passion to invest in themselves, period! Personal goal setting involves more than knowing how to instantly motivate yourself.

An average person with average talents and ambition and average education, can outstrip the most brilliant genius in our society, if that person has clear, focused goals.
